The first-ever USA Beer Ratings is going to take place in San Francisco, California on July 23-24, 2018. The goal is to find innovative beers with instantaneous consumer appeal.

The USA Beer Ratings is the second major event of a global drinks initiative being coordinated by Beverage Trade Network, the organizer of the event. The first event in the initiative was the London Beer Competition earlier this year. One anticipated outcome of the upcoming USA Beer Ratings is that it will become smooth for the average consumer to find the perfect beer for any occasion.

Judges Assessing Beer - USA Beer Ratings

Unlike other beer judging competitions, The USA Beer Ratings will use a combination of three different criteria: Quality, Value and Packaging. The event is already looming in the beer industry because of its entirely new judging criteria.

Judging criteria for the USA Beer Ratings

For a beer to stand out in the competition, it will need to perform well according to the three dominant criteria:

Quality – Quality will be assessed using factors such as Appearance, Aroma, Body, Taste and Aftertaste.

Value – Value will take into account the retail price of the beer, with a focus on how a beer is priced relative to other competing products.

Packaging – Packaging refers to both the design of the bottle and label, as well as the overall brand image.

Consider the emphasis on packaging and design. Most consumers buy the products with the eyes first. They always look for the products that look as good as they taste. Also, they often look for the brands that resonate with their particular lifestyle. This is what sets the USA Beer Ratings apart from other competitions.

Based on the criteria mentioned above, scores will be given to all the beers and a final weighted score will discover the final award winners of the USA Beer Ratings.

The scoring system is as follows:

Gold: 90+ Points

Silver: 80 to 89 Points

Bronze: 70 to 79 Points

The USA Beer Ratings will be assessed by an excellent panel of judges of top-level beer buyers with current direct commercial buying authorities. All the judges will be from leading retail chains, wholesalers, distributors and on-trade groups across a variety of channels and discipline including cash and carries, specialist retailers, casual and fine dining and hospitality industry.

All beer entered will be managed by Western Wine Services Inc.

The beer will,

  • Be tasted blind to examine its quality and drinkability.
  • If appropriate, will also be assessed by variety, style, region and country.
  • Judges will decide the value score based on the quality and retail price of the beer.
  • Will be assessed in detail for its design, label and packaging to check how well that matches up to the quality and the price of the beer.

About the USA Beer Ratings Competition

USA Beer Ratings Logo

The USA Beer Ratings competition was introduced by Beverage Trade Network which organizes beer events worldwide. The competition aims to recognize, reward and promote beer brands that are created to identify with and target a specific beer drinker. The competition works on three major criteria; quality, packaging and value for money. For any brand to earn its space on a retailer’s shelf or a restaurant’s beer list, they must be marketable and consumer driven and not just produced in the general hope it can find enough people willing to sell and buy it. This approach of USA Beer Ratings makes the competition different from other beer competitions.
